- Q: On T-Mobile´s web site when I click on accessories for the PPE [Pocket PC Phone Edition cellphone from T-Mobile USA = xda made by HTC] it lists a 80211b [Wi-Fi] attachment for the PPE Is this right?
A: There is no way to
use that WiFi PC Card with a T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition.
BTW: You can´t use the soon-to-be-available SD WiFi cards either since the
T-Mobile PPCPE does not have SDIO.
- Q: Is it true that only
a single application can receive SMS messages?
What I´d like to do is create my own application that receives and
understands my SMS messages.
Is it possible to prevent the "bubble" window from displaying the SMS
messages?
A: Only one application can register to receive SMS messages. For
PPC/Smartphone, that must be the inbox. On 2002 devices, it is not possible
to hide the bubble notification.
On PPC Phone Edition 2003, you can use IMailRuleClient (see the 2003 SDK).
- Q: does the [Samsung] i700 have a speakerphone
option?
A: Press and hold the talk button for at least three seconds during a phone
call, this will enable or disable the speaker phone. [the same applies to other Pocket PC phones]
- Q:[where to get instruction manual for Samsung i700]
A: the latest manual
(later than the one that ships on the CD) is available on the Samsung site
[...] download with the direct URL:
http://www.samsungtelecom.com/pdf/i700v.pdf. (If you have Adobe "associated" with .pdf´s the link
http://www.samsungtelecom.com/pdf/i700v.pdf and "save link as...")
- Q:HOW did you manage to record the phone
conversation into Notes???
A: It is quite easy to "record" conversations on the XDAs (well, on T-Mobile
version at least). During a call you´ll see the yellow note icon on the
bottom bar. Clicking on it will create a new note with some info taken from
the call (like the phone number). Next, hit the voice recorder button and
whola, your conversation will keep recording until you 1) switch it off, 2)
switch to a different function or program, 3) end the phone call, 4) run out
of something (in my case the longest conversation hit 4MB before ending
before the conversation stopped - you figure out the length of time,
though...).
- Q:I have a note with a recorded ("taped") phone call conversation that I want
to save and possibly use (play, crop, etc.) on my PC. Does any one have any suggestions?
A: Open the (pwi) note in MS Word (XP in my case).
After it converts, right click on the embedded icon and select edit. Once
the Sound Recorder opens you are ready to save the pure WAV file. Simply do
the OLE magic (copy and paste)... A new instance of Sound Recorder will
gladly accept the info from the Clipboard and allow to save it in WAV file
as if you just recorded it using your PC´s microphone.
Now, does anyone know the limit on the length or size of the note? Mine quit
after 8.7 minutes, or almost 4MB.
- Q: xda unlocking. how easy is it to get these unlocked?
A: Taka a look at www.xda-developers.com
There you can find a small program to unlock the xda.
- Q:When I receive an SMS on my O2 XDA, the number is
presented, but not the matching name from my contacts
list. For incoming phone calls, the name is presented.
Is there anyway to enable name matching for incoming SMSs?
A: Yes it called SMS Name
http://www.penreader.com/PocketPC/SMS_Name.html ... the latest ROM update might have rendered it redundant
- Q: I am having troubles with wav files that I convert from mp3 and put into
the rings folder. I can not play them in the XDA. However I can play them
on the computer.
Does anyone know this problem?
A: the wav file
had to be converted to wav PCM.
Once i did that it worked!!!!
- Q: Does anyone know how the program should be set up on MDA [construction equal to xda and also made by HTC] to use
built-in GSM modem, which COM port should be used (COM2 or COM9)?
A: the xda/mda is not capable of acting as a AT-command
compatible modem. Nor via IrDa nor via an application on the devide
itselves.
- Q: I want to be able to check my company´s web based email through Outlook
on an exchange server through a website. Anyone know if this could be done?
A: Yes, I do this all the time.
- Q:charged up xda last night and by this morning its was competely dead.. 2nd
time this has happened to me.
Its charging up fine now, but can anyone shed light on this?
A: reader and windows media player both cause something like
this. What happens is that the device turns itself on at
midnight (by design) to clean up the calendar, move
appointments, refresh the today applets, etc...
If you have windows media player or reader running they
can sometimes cause the device to stay on, and run out
the battery.
Try leaving the device overnight without those apps
running
- Q: Does anyone know a method or service that will allow me to
send attachments to e-mails?
A: Standard built-in [into Pocket PC phones] Outlook allows you to send and receive attachemts.
- Q:how to make hard reset
A: for the pocket pc phone, take the stylus apart, and place the plastic tip in
the hole under the red phone button on the right hand side of the device
....of course, you realize that by doing this you´ll loose all your programs
and data unless you have them already backed up on a storage card. Your
device will appear as if you just bought it off the shelf...a plain, vanilla
load (basic).
- Q:I have a random, reoccurring problem with my T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone
Edition PDA where the device will lock up when receiving an incoming call.
The phone will continue to ring/vibrate until I do a soft reset. The power
button will not shut it down. Callers are dropped into voicemail.
A: Try removing the T-Mobile software:
http://www.pocketpcmagic.com/removetapps/
- Q: is possible to develop applications for pocketpc
2002 phone edition with VS.net 2003?
A: Yes, .net compact framework will work with the Pocket PC Phone Edition.
- Q: I lost my owners manuel and just wanted to know where i
could download one please let me know.
A: If you have a SX56 [or other xda-like Pocket PC phone], try here:
